Although the survey does not explain the reasons, several can be found. You will encounter criticism and praise for any programming language if you dive in.

  1. PHP is a language that does not go according to the trends of the best paid and most favored today, such as those with a functional paradigm.
  2. PHP is not a language that developers want to “grow old doing”. On the contrary, it is a language that works very well for its purpose, but this purpose is also a relatively inflexible one, or you make websites.
  3. PHP emerged as a very accessible option to make dynamic websites, but today the options have increased, mainly thanks to JavaScript/Node and Python. Both languages ​​are much more fun than PHP.
  4. Most architectures used with PHP are model-view-controller based. That is, PHP is used to inject dynamic code into the HTML sketches rendered on the server. However, this architecture is becoming obsolete as JAMStack, and the JavaScript ecosystem for a single page or static webs with React, Angular, Solid.js, and others become popular.
  5. PHP is already very mature, but its relatively rigid views on coding make it a language that can get boring. It works well for what it’s made for, and I’m a fan of WordPress, but…
